My Record of Political Activity

I'm not a politician, I'm an activist. Politicians run for public office, enact laws and implement them. An "activist" works to change the political environment so that politicians feel compelled to react in some way.
My passion is voting rights and nonpartisan election reform. I believe that only two candidates should appear on the general election ballot for each office and these two candidates should be chosen by the voters in a nominating election. All voters have a right to participate in both the nominating and general elections because selecting the top two candidates for each office is just as important as selecting the top candidate. Finally, all candidates for the same office should be subject to a single standard when qualifying for the ballot. Party affiliation cannot be used to set "seperate but equal" standards.
For the last 14 years, I've been running for statewide office and using my Voters' Pamphlet statement to advocate for election reform. In the early years, (94-98) I simply tried to make people aware of how elections actually worked in Oregon. Then I switched and started pushing a specific reform package - "nonpartisan elections". I now run to keep pressure on Democrat and Republican candidates for Secretary of State. (The Secretary of State as the Chief Elections Officer in Oregon, should be a committed, vocal advocate for fair elections.)

Currently they are still ignoring me. At some point however, someone will break ranks. (Approximately 25% of the voters in Oregon are registered Independent voters. As such, they aren't allowed to vote in the primary but they do vote in the general election.)
